We got to learn about the amazing FBI (fungus, bacteria and insects) during one of the kids' school visits to the Auckland Botanic Gardens, and I am sure I took more notes than even the teachers did! I came away from that parent helping trip with this song, and another about the 'royal soil' that I also promise to share with you all soon. Aotearoa have an incredible variety of insects, amphibians, arachnids and invertebrates and I am proud to say I have overcome my own childhood squeamishness to appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of these incredible beings. I literally can't even squash a spider - they get trapped by a piece of cardboard and a glass and taken outside... lucky we don't of course have the venomous kind like in other countries otherwise perhaps I'd have a different view!
